This community conversation will center on the very important discussion of women's health and reproductive rights.  Reproductive rights are essential for women to enjoy their human rights, allowing people to make the best choices for their lives.  They help protect people from violence (including rape) and empower people to create families how and when they choose.  Oftentimes, women's health and reproductive rights are under attack based on religious perspectives, but this should not be so.  Instead, a religious and spiritual case can be made to advocate for women to have freedom and choice over their bodies, personal health, and human wellness.

The conversation will be led and facilitated by Dr. Jenny Pennycook, MD, FACOG.

Dr. Jenny Pennycook is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist in Rolla, Missouri. Before coming to Rolla, she practiced medicine in St. Louis, Missouri.

As an undergrad, she studied engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), here in Rolla. Ultimately, she wanted a career where she could help people in a major way and chose to become an OB/GYN because women have often been overlooked in medicine.

She understands the need to advocate for women, which she continues to do even locally at recent Rolla City Council meetings.

Dr. Pennycook states, "I love the scope of care, from well-woman screenings to surgery to childbirth. I have the privilege of guiding women through some of the most joyful – and most difficult – moments in their lives.  My job is to provide my patients with the knowledge they need to improve their health in a way that they feel comfortable. I strongly believe in evidence-based care and pass that information along to my patients."

Although Dr. Pennycook grew up in St. Louis, Rolla is now home for her and her family, which includes her wonderfully supportive husband and their daughter.

A light dinner will be served at the gathering.  Reservations are requested (but not required) to attend this community conversation, which is completely free and open to the public.  To make your RSVP to attend, please reply "going" to this event or contact Patrick Wilson, pastor of CrossRoads, directly at (512) 695-3290.
