In this series, we will examine some of the most confusing Pauline passages. In these sections of Paul's writing, he addresses the role of women in the home, church and community. We will explore what Paul says in these texts and the consistency with his affirmation of women in leadership.
In this fourth message, we look at how Paul addresses the need for unity in the church by calling the believers to work together with order and purpose. He speaks of the disunity caused by the customary laws for women: that they remain silent, ask their husbands, and remain in submissive positions. Then, Paul offers a rebuttal to these views and a plea for justice and equity. We should strive to elevate those who are oppressed to equal status in the home, the church, and the community.
